Only five golfers have won all four of golf’s modern majors at any time during their careers, an achievement which is often referred to as a Career Grand Slam: Gene Sarazen , Ben Hogan , Gary Player , Jack Nicklaus , and Tiger Woods .
The only golfer to win a calendar- year grand slam was Bobby Jones in 1930. And that was considered, in Jones’ time, the single-season grand slam . Other than Jones, Tiger Woods has come closest to a single-season grand slam . In 2000, Woods won the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship.
The men’s major golf championships , also known simply as the majors, are the four most prestigious events in professional golf. The competitions are the Masters Tournament , the U.S. Open , The Open Championship and the PGA Championship , contested annually.
Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth are in elite company with names like Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Tom Watson. McIlroy and Mickelson would prefer to leave this group, though. All of these players have won three of golf’s four majors .
In terms of the current four majors , the first to win all four in a single year was Don Budge, who completed the feat in 1938. To date, 17 players have completed a Grand Slam , though only six in the most prestigious singles titles. Only Stefan Edberg has completed the Grand Slam in a Junior discipline.
Jordan Spieth, (born July 27, 1993, Dallas, Texas, U.S.), American professional golfer who, at age 21, won the 2015 Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open , two of golf’s most-prestigious events. He captured a third major title when he won the 2017 British Open .

Has an amatuer ever won a golf major ? No amateur has ever won the PGA Championship, as the field is limited to professionals. But back to the Open. Though it has been 85 years since an amateur won the Claret Jug, 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose had one of the best British Open finish since Jones by an amateur .

The lowest score ever recorded for a “regulation” 18 – hole round of golf (not an executive course, not a short course, minimum par of 70) is 55.
