To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 or be a professional, and be 50 years of age at the start of championship play. Newport Country Club is one of the five founding member clubs of the USGA and was the site of the inaugural U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open in 1895.

The U.S. Amateur Four – Ball is an amateur golf tournament conducted by the United States Golf Association ( USGA ). The U.S. Amateur Four – Ball is played by “sides” of two golfers, each with handicap indexes of 5.4 or less.
Qualification . The U.S. Women’s Open is open to any professional or amateur female golfer. Amateurs must have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4, lowered in 2014 from 4.4 in 2013. Players may obtain a place by being exempt or by competing successfully in qualifying .
Qualifications for the Mid – Am are similar to those for the U.S. Amateur , except for the following: Competitors must be at least 25 years old as of the opening day of the main tournament. Competitors must have a USGA handicap index of 3.4 or lower, as opposed to 2.4 or lower for the U.S. Amateur .
