The U.S. Open is open to any professional, or to any amateur with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4. Players (male or female) may obtain a place by being fully exempt or by competing successfully in qualifying.

Qualification . The U.S. Women’s Open is open to any professional or amateur female golfer. Amateurs must have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4, lowered in 2014 from 4.4 in 2013. Players may obtain a place by being exempt or by competing successfully in qualifying .
In 2019, the winner of that event received $1.5 million from an overall purse of $5 million. The event has changed its structure slightly in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the winner earning $1.1 million from an overall purse of $3 million.
Stateside, this year’s other exemption categories will include the top-five point-earners in the FedEx Cup finals; the top-three finishers in the PGA Professional Championship; and the top-five finishers for both the Korn Ferry Tour regular-season points total and the Korn Ferry Tour finals.
Unlike the PGA Championship and the Open Championship, which allows the low 70 players and ties to play all four rounds, the USGA has a slightly higher bar for its “ cut rule,” taking only the low 60 and ties.
This year, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the USTA announced the 2020 US Open will proceed as scheduled, but with several significant changes. Most notably, the tournament has decided to cancel the men’s and women’s qualifying, as well as the mixed doubles tournament.
The 2020 US Open is set to be played in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on its originally scheduled dates of Aug. 31-Sept. 13. “First and foremost, our decision-making has been guided by the health and well-being of all who will take part in the 2020 US Open ,” said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith.
Serena Williams says she will play in this year’s US Open tennis tournament. The 23-time Grand Slam champion announced her intentions in a taped video message revealed Wednesday by the USTA. “I really cannot wait to return in New York and play the US Open 2020 ,” said Williams, 38.
To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 or be a professional, and be 50 years of age at the start of championship play. Newport Country Club is one of the five founding member clubs of the USGA and was the site of the inaugural U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open in 1895.
Qualifications for the Mid – Am are similar to those for the U.S. Amateur , except for the following: Competitors must be at least 25 years old as of the opening day of the main tournament. Competitors must have a USGA handicap index of 3.4 or lower, as opposed to 2.4 or lower for the U.S. Amateur .
To start with, your USGA Index needs to be 2.4 or lower to even attempt to qualify. If your course is rated 71.5/130*, the best 10 of your most recent 20 scores should average 74.3. This score will adjust slightly up if your course is rated more difficult, and slightly down if it’s rated less difficult.
